On July 29th 1981 Diana married Prince Charles of Wales and at the age of 20 became a well known worldwide figure, known as The Princess of Wales (Rothman,2013). During their years together Princess Diana and Prince Charles had two children, both boys named William and Henry. While Diana was married to the prince, she took part in many events which cased the media to take a closer look at her life. All the attention from the media made Princess DIana very uncomfortable  because of her shy nature, but she knew she had to do so in order to fulfill her title (Rothman,2013).

Life after Divorce

Unfortunately, the marriage came to an end on August 28,1996 .Prior to the divorce, an interview took place on a T.V show called “Panorama.” During the interview, Diana stated that both herself and the Prince were both involved in affairs ( Rothman,2013).  After the marriage ended,Princess Diana was still expected to behave as a Princess would. Diana had to make sure all the rules that were set by the Royal Family were followed as she was still considered a member of the Royal Family because of her children. Shortly after the divorce, Diana started dating again. One of the men she started seeing was an Egyptian named Dodi Al Fayed who was the son of a billionaire and also had a well known family (Rothman,2013).

The day she lost her life

Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed both died in a car crash that took place in a tunnel in Paris, France ( Bittermann,2007). The car accident occurred after the couple had just left the Ritz Hotel which was where they were having dinner that evening (Bittermann,2007).  The other people that were in the car included the driver, Henri Paul, who also died on the scene, and Diana’s bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones who was the only survivor (Bittermann ,2007). The accident took place after midnight in a tunnel which was located along the Seine River on the Pont de I’Alma bridge (Bittermann,2007). The car that Diana was in was a black Mercedes that was traveling over the speed limit in attempts to get away from a photographer.  The photographer was on his motorcycle going after Diana’s vehicle trying to get pictures of her and Al Fayed (Bittermann ,2007). It is said that the driver of Diana’s car lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a concrete post and then hit a wall (Bittermann,2007). It has also been said that the driver of Diana’s car was under the influence of alcohol .”Diana died at 4am that morning after going into a cardiac arrest” (Bittermann,2007).

Theories behind her death

Many believe that Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed were murdered and that the British government was behind their death (“conspiracies behind uk,”2012).  It was claimed that the Princess was pregnant carrying Al Fayed’s child which was not acceptable to the Royal Family. This was unacceptable because she was already the mother of the future king and Al Fayed was a Muslim (“conspiracies behind uk,”2012). There were also theories that stated that the driver of the car was not drinking that evening and that the blood samples were switched at the hospital.  Some believe that another vehicle was involved in the crash that quickly escaped the scene as soon as the accident occurred (“conspiracies behind uk,”2012). However, there has been no evidence to prove any of these theories stated above (“conspiracies behind uk,”2012).

Cause of death

Trevor Rees-Jones, Diana’s bodyguard,  was the only survivor of the crash (Bracchi ,2008). Rees-Jones suffered from serious injures as a result of the accident and did not recall much after the event occurred.  He did however, write a book titled “The Bodyguard’s Story,” which describes the crash and his experience through the whole tragedy. In his book and an interview that took place, Rees-Jones talks about how he wishes he could have remembered more of that night but he just doesn’t. He claims he only recalls getting into the car which was outside of the hotel. He also mentions that he really believes that the crash was just an accident and that there was nothing more behind it (Bracchi ,2008).

The french government recently made public documents and imagines of what took place that night (leung,2004). There were documents found that showed blood results from the driver of the car (Leung,2004). All the results indicated that driver was in fact drinking and driving.  He had exceeded the legal alcohol limit during the time the accident took place and along with that they also found a high amount of various prescription drugs in his blood (Leung ,2004).

In 2008, there was a ruling by the British jury which stated that Diana and her boyfriend were killed simply due to the fact of reckless driving and drinking (Leung ,2004). The driver of the car had an alcohol level of 1.74 grams per lite, which was over the drinking limit (Leung,2004). The driver was also traveling around 63 mph which was twice the speed limit for that given area (Leung, 2004). All the facts that have been gathered indicate that the princess died solely due to an accident.  The incident occurred because the driver was speeding and driving under the influence of  alcohol.  On top of everything, Henri Paul had traces of high amounts of prescription drugs in his blood.
